Box Lacrosse Coming to Portland
June 21, 2010
Next week, the City of Portland’s Fitzpatrick Stadium will host Rock The Box, a new 5v5 (four field players and one goalie) National Box Lacrosse Tournament sponsored by Reebok and the National Lacrosse League. Box lacrosse is played with the same rules and officiated as field lacrosse in portable rinks (approximately 130 feet by 70 feet) on grass or turf fields. The rinks allow for a high energy, fast-paced game that challenges the best player. Portland’s Fitzpatrick Stadium is one of twenty locations that will stage a tournament.
For two days, lacrosse players of all ages will be able to compete in up to six box lacrosse. The winners of the citywide championship earn an invitation to the National Rock The Box Championship at Walt Disney Work of Sports in Orlando, Florida early next year. Boys, girls, men and women can compete in their age bracket and should bring their own equipment. Goalie equipment will be provided.
Rock The Box is a creation of Best: Experiential Properties and 3D Lacrosse, Inc. For more information about the event or to sign up to compete, visit www.rockthebox.com. The event is free for spectators.
